I recently bought an 82 F150 with an I6 engine. I had to get the head rebuilt due to a few burnt valves and I am in the process of getting it up and running again. I would like to figure out if it is possible to accomplish this without the aid of the air pump and EGR.
I have attempted to plug the EGR mount and I have removed the air pump. The engine seems to idle ok, but after a few miles begins making a loud popping sound.
I have read a few posts here and I think I have the valves adjusted correctly, so I suspect that I need to do something more to get it running smoothly with the smog control stuff.
Any ideas?
