Smile What do i need to know

I have just recently purchased my 6.0 and i have spent the last couple of weeks going through the myraid amount of information you guys have posted. I finally found the build date on my truck which is Jan. 15 2003
From what i have seen is that some people frown upon a 2003 build date
what do i need to know about my truck
i have learned many things and it is quite overwhelming
so i am hoping you guys can compile a list for me to digest
i can tell you that the truck was a ford buyback(got a great deal)
and the dealer had to install a new turbo when i picked it up(after driving 19 hours from long island ny to minn. to pick it up - another story i will have to tell)

Jason, I have an early 03. Read the ........Tech Folder....... at the start of this forum. In there is a 6.0 liter bible. Read it. It will give you good info on the engine.

You might inquire on this forum and see if someone will run your VIN# through OASIS, the Ford online program to see what warranty has been done to your truck. If not visit your local friendly dealer where you get it worked on. If it has been flashed with the latest program, it should be a good truck. I am happy with mine.

I had a 1/03 build, and other than several RM/Rear Engine cover leaks (which they finally fixed) it ran flawless.. Weren't huge leaks, but was a matter of principal for me.. It had the latest flashes (then) and always ran fine.. I did have some other problems.. One, being the starter failed, no big deal.. A hydro booster leak, small.. And had the Turbo Drone/Moan.. All of the problems were fixed, and the turbo pedastal/drone repair was about an 80% improvement. Also it seemed to wander some, but wasn't a huge concern.. Some members have complained about it as well.. But, other than the drone from almost new, till about six months 'waiting' for a fix, the only thing that really bugged me was the torqueshift 'pop/clunk' that is deemed 'normal' from Ford.. The other problems are/were just new truck teething.. My 05 has a slight clunk (interimittent) between the 2-3 upshift, but not at all at 2-3 MPH as others have posted.. Although it was traded off, it was a sweet rig..

Congrats on the new ride...

..................HP...............

Question

I don't know what's wrong w/ my (tuck in sig) 03. Its stock, and runs GREAT. I get 18-19 unloaded & 13-14 pulling 6k# trailer. No stumble, surging, dead pedal, egr problems, the turbo hose hasn't blown off, the WIF light has never come on, I don't even know where he CEL light is...

It must be the Bio-diesel

Congratulations, may be all the truck you ever hoped it would be.

I bought it in Dec last year (ooo, hey, I'm coming up on 1 year in a few days, cool). The dealer told me it had the Oct program. I got it w/ 606mi on the odo, & it was sold to me as "new", so I don't know if it has the 94 injectors or not. I'm assuming so.

The truck was on their lot for some time (3-5 mos?), and I drove it twice before I purchased it. I think part of the "success" if you will is the manual tranny. I like the torqueshift, but the manual is just that much simpler. Only thing I would have changed if I could was a manual 4x, but so far the ESOF has been working well, but I don't get agressive with it off-road. I use it once or twice a month getting on/off job sites.

Hope you guys have good luck w/ your trucks. Just remember, w/ all these (Ford, GM, DC) "you pays your money, & takes your chances.

If you have a March 03 build engine, you have the C94 injectors. I have over 26,000 on mine. So far so good.

I have 4 good C94's still in mine. While talking to the tech while I was home for Thanksgiving, he said that with the C94's even though they did change the design later, the design was not the problem. Seimens quality control was what he blamed, or lack there of. The failures were not batch or lot specific, or my truck should have had all 8 go out. He said overall most of the stuff he sees up in WI is nothing but happy customers. He did have one that they lost a motor in while driving it with the flight recorder on. The customer was happy it only took the second time to catch, as they could not duplicate the symptom the first time. He was a very knowledgable tech, and let me in on some good info. I know that there is a rumor out about the motors seeing a change in 07, he told me the same thing, but that it would be a 6.0l twin turbo.
