My friend gave me two tires for my truck they are 265-75-16 I was going to buy four more for the back and put these on the front but I can't find a 265-16 any narrower. The 75 will never work for the duals I can't even get my fingers between them. Is there a tire that is close to the 265 that is narrower that wont effect the gear ratio. The truck is a 4x4. I would but them on if I wasn't hualing a load but theres no way there not going to rub hualing 4 or 5000 pounds. Thank you for the help.
They work just fine(275/85/16's) I ran them on a one ton dually cube van for a few years when I was a courier driver, and they gave the added height I wanted, without the rubbing sidewall problem. I haled closer to 8000 lbs in the truck and never had a problem, with heavier than stock springs and heavy sidewall tires.
235/85R16's are a common size and will be the same diameter as your 265/75R16's.
You can check out tire sizes and RPM's (Revolutions Per Mile) at many tire company websites.
The first number in a tire size is the section width of the tire at the widest point in MM's the second number is the % of the section width that is the height of the tire.
Some quick calculations:
For a 235/85R16:
235 / 25.4 = W (width in inches)
(W x .85 x 2) +16" = Diameter
Therefore:
235/85R16 => 235mm (9.25") wide and 31.7" in diameter
265/75R16 => 265mm (10.43") wide and 31.6" in diameter
