will this cause a problem

ok im going to do a shackel flip on my truck. to get my wheel base back i was thinking about making a tration bar that would mount my axle two inchs back so it would be in the middle of the wheel well. does anyone forsee a problem by doing this insted of moving the front hanger back.i know i will have to drill a new hole in the spring plate(thing the u bolts go in guess thats what its called)two inchs forward. but i think this will work out nicely

I don't know if I'm understanding you completely (doesn't take much to confuse me) but the traction bar itself won't move your axle back. The shackle flip itself shouldn't move your axle forward more than 2" If 2" is too much for you the easiest option would be to drill a new centering hole in your spring perch (where the springs sits on the axle). If you drill this hole toward the front of the perch it will push the axle back on the spring. If you do this you'd probably want to do the same to the spring plate too, just like you described.

Let me know if this makes sense. To be honest though I don't think you'll need to move anything. The small change in axle position is very insignificant and I found that it actually seemed to compensate for the lift at the driveshaft (i.e. I didn't have to lengthen the driveshaft even with my lift because the axle was slightly pushed forward).

ok when i said the traction bar idea i was meaning .ill have one hole in it for the centering pin and have another farther back to center the axle off of it .im worried about the wheels being to far forward cause i have 9 inch of lift now. 5 in springs and 4 in a block out of a high boy. the ones that the u bolt runs though. hmm but i guess if i could keep my drive shaft that would be nice.

All a traction bar does is holds your axle from twisting/rolling on itself. It should connect to the axle tube itself.

I would say just do the shackle flip and then see what you think of your axle position. If you don't like it drill new centering holes in the perches and plates.

Here's my wheel position before the flip:

And here it is after:

As you can see it's hardly moved the axle enough to cause concern. I actually like it better now than before.

And before you ask, 300six, the keg is a REQUIREMENT before getting started on your project.

And suddenly you won't care how far forward your axle is.

You don't even need new shackles, unless your old ones are trashed. I just used the stock shackles and different hangers. It'll work.

I recommend Bud Light so you can see what you're doing under the truck. Tastes great, less filling . . . it won't weigh you down.

Personally, I break out the welder and smear some boogers on there to keep from having to walk to and from home until you can get the shackle flip completed.
The last time I didn't fix something I KNOW I should have, I totalled my truck...$17 dollar part...

both of my rear/rear shackles broke it half on me when i was loading brick into my78 F-250, it wasnt overloaded its just that shackels were rusted through and ready to go, i didnt have a clue what to do, so i just unloaded and drove it home... the springs just pressed up under my bed (about a 4inch drop in my bed) it made it home fine and i honestly drove my truck a long time before replacing them(no wheelin but drivable) but that did push my rusted bed off the frame eventualy, so i would say its drivable if it breaks, but replace it A.S.A.P.

well see now with the problem about them breaking, it gives you a good excuse to install a onboard welding system so if it does, your prepared. just my .02
