Bolt Patterns

I've been around a lonnng time and I've always thought that the full size pickups from the Model A days 'til very recently all had the large bolt pattern. However, someone just gave my son an early eighties "Explorer" pickup for parts and the bolt pattern is smaller than normal. I haven't actually measured it, but I think it is larger than the Ford Passenger cars/Ranger/Explorer; maybe like the GM vehicles. Is anyone here aware of Ford using a smaller bolt pattern on the full size P.U.s ?? Brian G. NY

Yeah the F-100 used it occasionaly up to the early eighties, not sure why but they did use them, i believe its a 5 on 5.5, might 4.5 on 5 to, can't quite remember though.

80-83 (something like that) F-100 used the small pattern, F-150's used the big one (5x5 1/2).The small pattern is the same as full size cars.Think small was 4 1/2" diameter,maybe 4 3/4" ?

80-83 F-100's with power brakes got 5 x 4.5 bolt patterns and manual braked F-100's got 5 x 5.5 patterns same as all F-150's. Dodge did similar in the mid eighty's also.

I agree with 85F_150driver. Ran into this very recently when I had the chance to get my hands on some free aluminum rims. They were on an 82 F-100. My truck is an 86 F-150. Bolt pattern on a F-150 is larger.
Chrysler used the smaller pattern on some Jeeps and Cherokees as well. Ford Ranger used the smaller pattern in 88.
