glowplug cycle time

i was curious, between the diffrent brands of plugs, i know that the motorcraft are the best, but what i was curious about was could some people post how long their glowplug light stays on and what brand plugs are in it, cause i heard somewhere that with lets say champion the truck will start harder than with motorcraft, because of the resistance in the plug causing diffrent heating temps. also this is for a 6.9 diesel mine is a 84. thanks!!!

I have a 90. My light was staying on about 10 seconds. Then I had gp and controller problems. I changed the gps and bypassed the controller with a pushbutton. Everything is working fine now. The truck had champions when I got it. I use motorcraft now.

1989, 7.3L. I have Autolite GP's, but after reading some of the threads here, I am going to replace them with Motorcraft GP's. My controller is working fine, replaced it 3 years ago. It cycles the GP's for 13 seconds. The truck starts fine, even below 10°F, but usually I cycle twice when it is that cold. But even with only one bad GP, the cycle time drops to about 7-8 seconds and I have difficulties in starting.

Bjarni_Richter go to the site below before trying to remove those bad boy Autolites.........http://www.members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/

Now is no time to wait with the replacement either, every day you use them offers you a chance to see the inside of your engine.......

My 85 6.9 has started to feel the colder weather, as the temp is falling below 30 most nights. I have a Car Quest type GP control box (prior owner ?), and a assortment of GP brands installed. I replaced two rear GP yesterday with motorcraft type GP and will pick up 6 more tomorrow. The first time GP cycle time is about 7-8 seconds steady, then off and on.

I need quick starts on cold mornings as a volunteer FD member. and hope the new set of GP will do the trick. Hate to use the block heater, but may have to if GP's don't help.

On my 97 7.3 psd, I can recycle the GP steady time on by just turning the key off and back on on a cold day.

The 85 6.9 will just keep the off and on cycle after the first steady 7-8 second period, with key going off and then back on. Is that normal ?

I guess a push button bypass would be a option if the new Gp's don't help.

Throttle positions of 1/2 to full petal below 32, appears not to be of help in starting. Will up date results of new set of GP's.
