check engine light

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jan-02 AT 03:24 PM (EST)]Well, without pulling the code, there is no real way of telling for sure. This being said, look at the basics. If you haven't changed your plugs & wires, you're due (I like the Motorcraft double platinum plugs personally, & a good set of 8mm aftermarket wires such as Taylor or Jacobs). Also, with over 50K, the O2 sensor(s) are due for replacement.

Also, I'd pull the MAF off of the filter box & spray it down with Brake Kleen. While doing all this, pull the negative battery terminal so that you can reset the computer.

Good luck!

I would just take it in the shop and get the codes pulled before replacing things, it could be just an inexpensive sensor. The computer has detected something out of specification.
