I didn't go to a C6. If I make the swap, I install an AOD and low rear gears. Great low end power, with the great mileage that comes with overdrive. I prefer the AOD's out of Lincolns or T-Bird SuperCoupes. Lower first gear with a heacy duty servo.

The C6 is one tough nut, but they have a reported power loss of 30%. Depends a lot on what motor you are tossing it behind. I am presently converting from the 1965 old granny low 4 behind my 352. The C6 will be backing a warmed 390, so power loss is not really going to be my concern....

Does the AOD fit the 352-390 motors ? I thought it was computer controled ?
I know Gas milage and a 352 dont realy go together but 8 mpg aint much to start with and i'd hate to get 6. As far as the over drive I think i can add that to any trany. ( long story ) so I was wondering, now I have herd the C4 takes less power but is not as strong. I may have to take out this big block and go with a 302 to get what im looking for. I realy am starting to luv my truck, but the shifting is already starting to get old.

AOD won't fit a 352/390 without an adapter, unfortunatly. However, it is not a computer controlled transmission. It's shifting is controlled by a throttle valve cable or linkage to the carb.

Ok i did some shoping around and found a place that sells adaptors for the Fe motors, For the AOD and the 700R4 tranys, I also did some shoping for tranys and found both to be around the same price if built up a bit for towing in the 300-450 Hp range. so wich would be better ? the 700r4 has a lower 1st gear but the AOD has a lower OD, with the 352 I dont think the low end is gona be a problem so what do you think ? Stay ford or go hybread ?

and 1 more question did they build a C4 for the Fe motors ? I cant find that anwser after searching for it and the C4 only draws 18hp.

Steven, There are only two direct bolt up auto trannys the C-O-M and C6.

Whatever power that is lost, I will happly loose it evertime for a self shifting tranny.

You can change the gearing on C-6 1st & 2nd by intalling e4od planetry hub & sun gears , bearings that can help the power loss & much much more . Copy my 1st post & open with another page . they make c-4's to handle 400-500 hp & more.

Smile C-4 to FE block ?

Somebody ( and I can't remember who right now) makes an aftermarket bellhousing to do just that. It's a "saftey" type housing, but will enable the
C-4 to bolt up to the FE block. The C-4 has much lower parasitic losses and is lighter and smaller to boot.

I'll look around and see if I can find it.

Phil
