High rev at idle?
I just had the 302 rebuilt in my 92, and the same time I had the EGR valve and Oil Sending Unit changed, because I knew they were both bad. Now, when I start the truck it will rev up to around 1500 or so RPMs for a few seconds, then back down to normal. It will repeat this two or three times. I don't like that it does this, because it seems to me that it's putting a lot of stress on a cold engine. Especially since this engine is still being broken in, I'd like to know if this is something I need to keep it from doing, and find the cause of.

I'm not sure you can keep it from doing it. Mine usually goes up to around 1500 on initial start up, kicks down to around 1000 - 1100 and then kicks down to normal idle of about 700 RPM's. All this, from the post I have read, is pretty much normal. It's all controlled by the Idle Air Control valve and other components that work in conjunction with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) or computer. The only thing that sounds a little strange is the fact that it cycles like this more than once. Have you read the codes since you had the engine rebuilt to see if its throwing anything in particular or anything at all??

I haven't yet, but I know there is at least one code in there because the Check Engine light will come on for a few minutes, and then go off. But it's not when the truck is doing this, so I'm not sure it's related. But I'll still check it out.
