Cataletic/converter question

I have 1991 F150 AOD tranny "farm truck" I had new exhaust put on and the converter removed. Then my transmision started acting up on the way home. When I got home I looked under neith the truck and there was a pipe that was cunected to the converter just hanging thier open. So I plugged it off and the transmision seem to work better. Am I just crazy or does this some how affect the transmision and what does this pipe or hose conect to. and if does affect the transmision should I put a cataletic converter back on or just leave it plugged.

Probably looking at the EGR pipe. I know some guys that just plugged it up. If im not mistaken, thats where the EGR gets its exhaust gases from. You might notice a drop in gas mileage.

Still working on this problem

I still don't know what the problem is, but the last thing I need is less mileage only getting around 8 mpg now. Today I done a little bit of a tune up though and replaced o2 sensor. Maybe this will help. Thanks
