Has anyone ran 16" wheels on their 3/4 ton fords? I've tried 15"s but they wouldn't clear the front brake calipers. If 16"'s will work the tires would be much cheaper!!
i have 16s on my 75 f250. tourque probably knows from experience too, but im just gonna say that i know theyll work from direct experience with a truck i currently own.
.............The dividing line for 16" wheel compatability is the 99 model year I believe . The 99 16" wheels are NOT compatable with those of prior model years as the 99's and forward are a metric dimension from what I've been told . So , from the 60's up thru the 98 model year 16" , 8 hole wheels should fit any truck is my understanding , sk

Right - you'll need the 8 hole on 6.5" diameter bolt circle wheels. The "SuperDuty" trucks that came out for the '98 model year (the new body style) use a metric sizing - I think its 8 on 105mm or something like that. Just remember that the wheels for a late model superduty won't fit, but the wheels off of a 3/4 ton from '97 or earlier should w/o problems.
My 1976 F-250 4x4 came from the factory with 7.50 x 16 tube tires on 16" split rims. The split rims supposedly became a safety issue and none of the local tire shops would touch them so I changed over to aftermarket 9.75 x 16.5 rims with 12.50 x 35 x 16.5 BFG tires.
To answer your question the truck ran just fine with the stock 16" wheels and tires. They did not look as good as the aftermarket rims and tires, but were a little better in snow.
