Most programmers will give you more bang for the buck than any other mod, and are rediculously easy to install. That being said, most are "vin locked" to protect the manufacturer, who is in the business of making a fair profit just like the businesses that support this web site. Is it worth the price?? Maybe, maybe not, but you are betting $200 that it is, and you most likely will have no warranty, support or recourse if you have a problem. If it were me, I would buy a new one and be done with it, and I believe there are special pricing advantages available here.
Please understand, I am speaking in general terms here about "a product", not a specific produst. I do own a programmer, but it is not the brand you are looking at. Just ask yourself if you are willing to throw away more than half the cost of a new product in case the one you are looking at is not a match with your particular vehicle.
If something looks too good to be true, it usually isn't
