First time post, know you guys can help with some questions. Just purchased 1990 Clubwagon (300 I6 with E4od 70,000mi decent shape)with sliding door. Door is very hard to open. Will not pop open to retract. You have to reach in and pull the left side out for it to open. I have greased, sprayed and inspected all rollers, posts and levers, seems OK. Looks like the rearward latch ( the one with the swingout arm ) doesn't force the door to release. Does this need to be replaced? Any Quick Fix?
I am mounting a trailer hitch to haul a small utility trailer and maybe a snowmobile trailer in the winter. I'm sure this should be OK but I will ask the question, How much trouble is it to upgrade to E 250 axles and springs? Do they just swap out springs and all! I beams need to be changed? These have larger brakes correct? 16 inch tires? I don't want to start dumping $ into a 15 year old truck but if i can pick up the running gear cheap and it is simple to do, why not. Looks like it needs a gas tank and an oil sending unit, other than that Should be OK!
This is my first van and I love driving this thing. Rides nice and is decent on gas. Any suggestions would be appreciated from those who know. Thank you!
Welcome to FTE. You should be fine with a small trailer. Make sure you have the right hitch and the lights work. Check the tire condition and pressure. Unless you get a larger trailer, I would not go to all the trouble to make the swap. You could try a bone yard for the parts, but it is a fair amount of work. Good luck with your van.
