Anyone here ever used a poly gas tank? If so are they durable. The gas tank on my 83' F250 has a rust problem inside the tank that causes me to change filters constantly. I appreceiate any info.. Also is 127.95 a good price for a 19gal rear tank?
I haven't used one but I can't see the downside. The poly tank should be as strong as the steel one without the rust issues. It stays out of the sun so you wont have any UV issues either. Don't know if the price is right, you'll just have to compare on line.
I've had one on my '86 for about three years now. The only problem I had was when I installed the sending unit, I didn't tighten the hold down wcrews tight enough, and it leaked. I called the company, and they tole me that the hold down screws would break before the plastic did, and they sent me a new sealing ring. I installed the new ring with some Permatex, and tightened the screws nice and tight. No leaks, no problem. Bought my tank from J.C. Whitney.
I checked out J.C. Whitney and they wanted 176.95 . I was wondering what causes the tank to rust inside ; arent they coated with something? I have found a new metal tank for 96.00$. What are the chances of that tank rusting like the other one?

Thanks for the patience/replies

Tanks rust! I don't think they are coated but how long do you plan on keeping the truck? The tank you are replacing lasted 21 years and 21 years from now you may not even have the truck.
I had always heard that condensation on the inside of the tank was the cause of rust. I never paid much attention to it until the day I was under my truck and looked at the tank. The temperature had changed that day, and there was a heavy layer of condensation all over the outside of the tank from the bottom to the top of the fuel level. If there's that much condensation on the outside, then you know it''s forming inside also.
