I know CFM ratings are beat to death, and I know the repetitive discussion about them gets old, but bare with me here.......
I am planning on an edelbrock 1403 for my wifes truck (500cfm) but came across a heck of a deal on a brand new 600 cfm edelbrock performer...$249 I think versus $299 for the 600 cfm...Does anyone know where I can get the 500cfm version for that price, or have any advice on a 600 cfm carb on a stock 302?
The other question is this, I cant afford the carb AND intake right now and the carb on the truck (stock) is shot, does anyone know anything about the cost, name, effectiveness of the little adapters you can buy to put a 4 bbl on a 2 bbl intake, just for a few weeks? is that a bad idea?
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that 600 cfm is too much for a stock 302. I would go with the 500 cfm.
And I have heard that those adaptor plates are a joke. You put a 4 barrel on for increased flow and efficiency, then bottle it up with an adaptor plate. If you only plan on using it for a couple weeks it might be ok though.
The 600 will work ok. The adapter plate is ok for a temp. fix, but as mentioned above, it does bottleneck the mixture quite a bit. I would try to save up for an intake to add later if possible.
