94' 4.0 pinging...Help
A friend of mine has a 94 Ranger 4.0 with a 5 speed. He bought it used, very low mileage, and it started pinging within a couple of months after the purchase (about 24,000 miles). He had Ford to the carbon treatment and that stopped the problem for a while. The pinging started up again about 50,000 later on so he had an oil change place to the treatment but it didn't help (I told him the oilchange place was a rip-off but he didn't listen). Anyway, I've never had or heard of an engine having that kinf of recurring pinging problem. Any ideas? (I already suggested a new knock sensor to start but until he sees other opinions he ain't gonna do anything)
