Hi,
I am trying to study for my 3rd class power engineering that is on a cd rom. Everything works but the pictures. Its a big box with a red X in there. I right click then "show picture" and nothing happens. Does this on 2 different computers.
If i right click on the red X and go down to "properties" it says its a GIF image. Do i need to download something? If so anyone got any links?
If you're using Windows you should be able to open it with Explorer or any photo software. A ".gif" is just another type of image file. When you right click on the picture you should be able to select "open with" or a command similar to that. Open with Internet Explorer or another photo program you have installed. Good luck, you shouldn't need any additional software.
When i right click on the Red X these are the only options in bold that i can then click on
Show picture
Copy
Add to favorites
Properties
As i am reading along and studying it says "see figure 1" So i wouldnt think that i would have to open it in another window. It should be open where all the wording lessons are. Any other ideas?
So is this a browser-based program? I've had that problem with Internet Explorer before. Your problem sounds different though. I would agree with furball69.
Has it worked in any other computers?
If it's browser based, can you see other GIF pictures? (can you see the top image of this website?)
You may have to be connected to the internet while you are viewing the CD.
To test this theory try this; Right click the X, click properties, look for the "Address", if one is listed and it starts with a http:// then copy the whole address and paste it into your web browsers address line while connected to the internet, if it works then the above statement would be true.
You might want to view the source of the page, and look for the img tag. For all you know, they could have hardcoded the drive letter in the html for D and you could be using a different drive letter in your machine. Once you find the image code, find out the name of the image, and then search the cd for the file. This will tell you if it's even on there.
Problem is, since it's on a cd, it's read only, you would have to copy it off to your hard drive, modify it, then burn a new cd, which is a lot more work than it sounds.

Yes its a burnt cd. When the girlfriend puts the cd in my computer at home it opens right away. She says all the pics are there but they are in a seperate folder all by themselves. When i stick the cd in the computer here at work, nothing happens. I have to click on my computer, then "E" drive and so on. But every file i check shows no pics. Its the same cd. So somehow these pics shouldnt be in there own file? And yes these pics connect to the internet. And i have internet on both computers.
OK so maybee it doesnt have any thing to do with the net, but if it does i have it anyways. When i right click on the "X" and go to "properties" this is what it says for address
If it is a burnt cd then it may not work properly in all machines. Also it could have corrupeted the file but the main thing is it probably is looking for the image in the wrong area.
OK i found the images under "image" file. So i can view all the images in a seperate window. Which will be a real pain if i have to do it that way. So this may be corrupted? Or is there a way to do it so i dont have to open another window and search through 1000 different gif files. hmmmm.

Ok, you said you found the gifs in the images folder, now is that folder on the root of the disc or is there a hierarchy like the path in you copied from the dead image link like SECTIONS/SECTION1/MODULE1/images/.
Somehow it's looking in the wrong place or the pictures are in the wrong place.
does the program have to be installed? If so, there might be an ini file taht you can edit to make it look in the right place. If it just runs form the cd something is amiss, considering that it works on your other computer.
