I have a 92 Ranger with the very strange 2.3L engine. The one with 2 plugs per cylinder. The trouble that I am having is that when I get on the interstate, the truck just stalls and dies. When I pull to the side of the road it cranks back up without a problem. Then when I am back at highway speed it just stalls and dies again. I took it to the local dealership and they wanted to replace the engine. Not having that kind of money, I took it to my uncles shop. As per their instruction, and that of the computer, I have changed the following problems with no results:
Fuel filter
Fuel pump--this one is REALLY fun to do by yourself in the driveway!
Fuel pressure regulator
Plugs
Plug wires
Rotor
Cap
Computer
Timing Chain
and probably some others that I have forgotten.
I wanted a new truck, but I did not want to build it a piece at a time. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreaciated.
Are you getting proper fuel pressure at the fuel rail now? Are you still getting codes? If you are what ones? I know the pump is fun, did you pull the bed off, it's the easier way.
