351 M Motor Mount ?

I may be putting a 351m from a 78 2wd 4 spd f-150 into my 79 4spd 4wd f-150.

First, will the motor mounts from the 2wd work in the 4wd? I currently have a 300-6 now.

Second, will I need to get a different oil pan - rear sump vs front sump?

Just wanted to see if it would be worth paying a little extra for the whole pickup if I could use the other parts, put the 300 back in the 2wd and sell it again.

Thanks

Let me see if this is correct..

The 79 is 4x4 and has the I6
The 78 is 2x and has a 351m

You will need to swap out the bell housing/clutch pack as well when going to the 79. I would have both trucks on hand when doing this to make life easy. Unbolt the motor from the 78 from the frame, keep the tranny attached, and drop the complete package into the 79, and vice-versa for the 78. The reason for a rear sump pan is to keep the black gold flowing when hill climbing...

Your scenario was correct, but still want to verify -

1. The motor mounts will work from a 2wd over to a 4wd? I know that 300 and 351 are different.

2. You think that I can keep the same oil pan? Assuming front sump on 2wd?

I would have them side by side, however want to try and verify some of this before I actually go to see/buy the second pickup (already have 2 and am guessing these based on the blown 302 that is in my first spare 78 2wd).

I would look for a 4x4 donor with the 351 to make things the simplest. You will want a rear sump pan. I am not an expert on the 2x and 4x engine perches, but for that year vehicle, I believe they are the same (check with the crew in the 73-79 truck forum). Your 302 will be the same as the I6, not similar to the 351M.
