i was just setting down a bit ago thinking of the old 4230 deere i used to own. as it got older, it would idle slower and slower. i was just wondering if anyone has found that out with their powerstrokes?
i havent noticed my psd do that ive got one with almost 500k on it and who knows how many hours i think its cause the psd's are computer controlled. ive got an older deere 5020 thats slowed a little not much though
Are you sure that the RPM has lowered? My '87 Audi 5000 has the same idle speed (on the tach) as it did ten years ago when I bought it, but the idle feels lower because the motor mounts are worn out and the car acts like a sounding board for the vibration. The cure is new motor mounts.
BTW I love the car. It runs and drives like brand new, steering tight and crisp, shocks new last year, supple and control the ride. Transmission shifts like butter and right on time. Everything works and it's never been in an accident of any kind. 200,000 miles on the car. It's had it's share of timing belts, a new radiator, and one power window regulator. But I digress from Powerstroke....
my old deere has its about 100 rpms lower on the tach, just lower compressionm from being wore out and wore out injection pump and injectors is my best guess. still runs just fine just dosnt like to start on cold mornings anymore. its got about 9000 hours on it its a 85

Well it has a right to be balky, 9000x60mph=540000miles at mostly full load I would imagine. It has served you well.
nothin runs like a deere. lookin at a new one once im settled in in tx
something around the 120hp turbocharged 4x4 with a full cab......havent quite decided which one yet
Excellent choice. I watched the tractor pulls on ESPN not long ago and the Deere's flat dominated all other's. Granted it's a highly modified version but you have to have good foundation to work from.
LOL, I have never farmed a day in my life except for a small patch with a roto tiller!
Hat's off to you all who till the soil, I'll fix your tractor gladly instead.

I've noticed the same thing on older diesels in Deeres and IH's, my guess would be the mechanical injector pump. Since our cornbinders (powerstrokes anyway) dont have them, it shouldn't happen.

There aren't any motor mounts on any John Deere tractor that I've ever seen-everything is hard bolted directly together.
