'89 Ranger ... Clutch?

Gonna take a trip over the high sierras, see, and so thought I'd get the buggy in shape. It's an '89 Ranger 4X4 2.9 liter, 5 speed, has had both the clutch and transmission replaced before. I had my guy in Oakland do a lube, oil and filter, plus a minor tune-up, rotate the tires, check brakes, belts, hoses, and drive it around a bit to see if anything else needs attention.

So I go to a place in West Sacramento for some tire chains (just in case) and when I go to leave, I cannot put the thing in gear. Any gear. I shut it off, and then was able to move the stick, started it up, and it behaved normally until our next stop, when it actually began moving forward in a parking lot while the clutch was in! Than I had to start it while in gear to get home.

So I took it to Harrold Ford's service dept. and left it there all day.
They drove it around for miles 3 times with 3 different guys, and they all said it's working perfectly. Indeed, taking it home last night, it did.

Someone said a possible cause is not driving in 4 wheel drive enough, that it should be done regularly.

Anyway, I leave Wednesday, and I'd like to take this truck, but now I have reservations.

What's going on?

check the clutch fluid? under the hood near the power break booster is another small looking "master cylinder" with a black screw on cap. It takes DOT3 brake fluid. Make sure that if full. Also check to make sure your tranmission if full on fluid. make sure the slave cylinder is functioning properly also.
