My 2001 PSD F250 Superduty 4-door, 4WD (Dead Stock, no mods) with about 31,000 miles has reciently started vibrating when stopping. Feels like I have "knobby" tires, if you know what I mean. Vibrations don't start till about 10 MPH or less and are not felt in the steering wheel, but in the truck. Went to Dallas for Thanksgiving and was in heavy traffic for an hour and a half and the vibrations started anytime I was going less than about 10MPH, brakes on or not.
It got really bad, but on the trip home two days later, I didn't even notice it. Was on open raod though, not heavy traffic.
Any ideas before I take it to the Ford house for a checkup?
They don't look to be, by my eye. If they were, why would the vibration get worse in heavy traffic and go away when stopping on the open road? My nephew thought he had the same problem when one of his front rotors cracked a few years ago...
Maybe take it in and have the tires ballanced. you may have thrown a weight. and when that happens you can usually only feel it at certain speeds (Normally higher than 10mph but it's worth a shot)
Took the truck in to the tire shop I have gone to for years and asked them to check it out. The said the inner two treads of the front tires were wearing (they had a term for it but I can't remember the term) and they rotated the tires. They said they woud wear back normal on the back. It was my fault, I hadn't gotten the tires rotated in about 10,000 miles. The vibration speed had gotten up to about 30-35MPH by then and, going home it was about half that. Since then is is still there but gradually getting less noticeable. I think they were right.
Thanks for all the super suggestions, I'll keep them in mind in case I get another "Strange vibration".
