Thump sound.

Hello all.

I own a 93 ford explorer XLT. Everytime i back up to parallel park (turning my wheels to desired position ) I hear a "THUMP" sound. I dont hear this sound when turing corners and driving regularly, i hear it only when i am parking... What could be the cause of this and how much would a mechanic charge me this type of job?
