Yeah so i finally decide to get any Expy after i had my second daughter on Wednesday, and yesterday after we came home from the hospital found out that it was so freakin hard to get that car seat out of the explorer. So now here it come. I found out that if I can get an Expy for $46,000. I know that sounds pretty steep for an XLT Sport but thething is i'm getting it for 5.9% APR and i'm going to trade-in the explorer which i still owe like $9000 on. Here is what it is:
2004 Ford Expedition XLT Sport 4X2
6-In Dash CD Changer
Powerfold 3rd Row Seat
First Row Capt. Chairs
Now here comes the question. What do you guys think about the 4.6L in the 04 Ford Expedition. The daily driver will be the wife(when she gets better) and my two, excuse me, three kids(wife swears Daniella is mine ) will be riding with her most of the time. All of them, cept Daniella, are pretty heavy for their size. The only time i'll be driving is when we go to Mexico, and the i swear the wife practically takes the whole house, so that's a good amount of weight. So do you guys think i should get the Expy or do you think i should just do something else. I look forward to your answers guys and thanks in advance.
P.S. The sales guy said he would throw in a free DVD player since they didn't have the truck i was looking for even though they had it on the internet inventory at dealerconnection.com. Thanks Again.
Have you considered buying an EXPY a few years old? The reason I asked, is I just bought a 2001 EXPY Eddie Bauer 4x4. Now I know the benefits of buying new but take just a minute and weigh the differences: First I paid 17,500 plus tax, title. I financed for 6.7%. It had 60,000 milea on it but the thing is loaded. I have the 5.4 V8, 4X4, Eddie Bauer trim!, leather, heated seats, heated mirriors, the list goes on. Basically I paid 1/3 of what you are looking at paying and somebody else ate most of the depreciation. It seems to me your really in the market for a 5.4 with a few more options. If so, look around for a good quality used EXPY and avoid not getting all the options you want and still get a quality vehicle that will last you for years. Whatever you decide, enjoy your new ride!
46,000 for an XLT?? MAn, run away from that dealership...FAST. I love my 03 eb 4.6, and paid over 10,000 less (new) than what they are trying to sell one to you for. Dont get ripped off.

Xmem, maybe this price includes the 9K he still owes on the trade. If not you are right. That is way to much.

Jose, be careful with your deal?? I just priced a 2005 like you are looking at on www.ford.com and came up with $38000 list! I think you can do better then what your guy is offering.
Yeah i know it's not a very good deal but they're selling it to me for about $28,000, then you add the taxes and and all that other crap and it gets to $31k. The sales guy told me that i'm supposed to be financed at 5.9% but he has to double check with ford credit first. Then you still add the $9000 i still owe on the explorer, well actually, i owe about $19,000, but it's worth like around $10K-$12K and since i'm trading it in it comes in at about $9000. Guys i'm not as stupid as i look. Plus i get a free DVD Player since this dosen't have it and i originally went to the dealer to get a Eddie Bauer that has. Since they didn't have the one i was looking for they said it wasn't my fault that they don't have anymore 04's to choose from and that they still showed on there internet inventory that they still had them.
Anyway my question was that is the 4.6L a good engine or is WAY to underpowered. I didn't get to test drive this one since we had to go to the store before it closed. I did get to test drive an 05 but thet dealer told me my monthly payments would be like $900-$1000 per month and that one costed $42,000 and with not as much discount.
Oh, and shagnasty36, i really don't like getting used since i have had nothing but bad expereinces with them. Plus i like the new car smell alot.
Thanks everyone.
I have an 03EB with the 5.4L. A good friend of mine has an XLT with the 4.6L. Let me tell you that there is a big difference - you should test drive both engines to be sure you understand the difference - also if you ever plan on towing anything of size you will defnitely want the bigger engine.....just my 2 cents

Reason: typo
$46k!!! that should get you a heckofalot of "new car smell"!
It sounds WAY overpriced to me, and I'd stay away from the 4.6 in an Expy...just my 2 cents...
I got my 2004 XLT Sport with a 5.4 and 2WD for $31K. I also got 0% interest for 5 years. Keep your trade out of the deal, find a truck that they don't have to locate, and I would also find another dealer. It sounds like that free DVD player could end up costing you thousands.
Doesnt matter how much you owe on the tradein. Paying 46K for an XLT is crazy. If you are truly looking for something that will be easier with small kids, then look at a mini-van. The expy will actually be harder for your wife to get the kids into b'c its sits up higher than the explorer.
I just bought an 2004 XLT Expedition, 5.4L engine, 4x4, leather seats and had 0 miles on it. BRAND NEW FOR $31,000 tax included.
That's how much they're selling it to me for, $31,000. If i add the $9000 from the explorer it becomes $40000. Plus the financing which brings it up to $46,000. I may have not made that clear but the $46,000 comes with the taxes, trade-in and and finacing alltogether. Sorry if i didn't make that really clear.
As for the minivan, my 14 year-old son will be helping out my wife so i don't have to worry about that.
Maybe i should start this from the begining. Yesterday i decided that we ARE going to need a bigger vehicle. I told my wife that they were announcing $15000 off MSRP on all remaining 04 Expedition EB. I had my son look up which ones they still had at the dealer. They listed that they had 2 04 EB's in white and another one in blue. So i told my wife i'll go to the dealer and get and drive it home so that she could stay at home with the baby and my other daughter. When we got to the dealer the salesguy came out and greeted us as usual. We told him we were looking for an Expedition. he directed us to them and we told him what we were looking for. Blah Blah Blah Blah. Long story shorter, He told he didn't have any, test drove an 05(Had more than enough power), took it to the wife, she didn't like the color(dark stone, asked if there were any more) took it back, went inside to see what he could do about the pricing, came out to expensive, looked at the remaining 04's(XLT's), Silver Grey and Red, chose red(only color wife would like) and we came up withe the best deal we could get on both side (dealer, me) went to the store, went home, told wife, told her about the price, she said no, convinced her, she said maybe.
Sorry for going through my life story. Well anyway we might not even get the expo since the wife is tired of seeing gray interiors(gray in almost everysin car we have ever bought). She said she would rather wait for a better deal to get a fully loaded EB instead. Well, we'll go on monday from when we come back from the doctor so my wife can check it out anyway.

look at it this way. . . your in the hole for 9 already and what happenes next year if you should happen to say the truck is too much in fuel costs and have to trade that in again? how much in the hole will you be? Look in to carmax and sell your truck on the street dont fall prey to car salesman. please! PS I average about 65 dollars a week in gas. Now figure X4. If your not gonna tow look into minivan. Seriously. Otherwise the truck is big and will protect your family well.
Look into the used books and see what they are going for used. You'll see ahuge savings if its 2 years old.
Salesman you gotta love'em!
