what is required to swap a 2.3 4cyl in place of a 2.8 V6.
The 2.8 needs to be replaced because the block is cracked.
The truck has a 4spd, manual steering and brakes.
Will any 4cyl bellhousing work or does it have to be a ranger bellhousing?
Will motor mounts for a 2.3 be enough or do rangers have mount towers or brackets that allso need to be changed?
I don't think the tranny matters, all the bellhousing-tranny patterns should be the same, the motor mounts CAN be change to fit in the new motor....I've taken' out a carb'ed 2.0, and put in a EFI 2.9, and it works great.....ANYWAYS.....the motor mounts on the frame will most likely be differnt for the two motors, so if you take the motor mounts for the 2.3 you can un-bolt the 2.8 mounts, and bolt on the 2.3 mounts, that should work fine......the radiators will be differnt....the top for the V-6's, are on the opposite as the tops for the I-4's.....so U'll need the I-4 rad........when I did the swap I had to use the coil that was meant for the V-6 motor...the 4 Cyl. coil did not work w/ the V-6, so use the I-4 coil.....ummm....what else.....lol.....well I can';t think of anymore off the top of my head, but if I do, I'll let ya know
BTW, the 2.0's were carb, the 2.3's were EFI......if that may chance you preffered motor choice......but the 2.3 IS possible.....I've gone from carb's I-4 to EFI V-6, so you should be able to do the same type of swap!...good luck!
