Leaking rear seal
94 Ranger XLT, 4L 6cyl, , 2wd, 130k. One of the rear axel seals is leaking. I checked with a local shop (not a Ford dealer), who quoted me a price of $400 to replace the one seal. Topped off the differential fluid while I decide what to do.
Since I have to drain the differential to pull the offending axel out to change the seal, I figured I might as well replace both seals and probably the bearings as well. I have the Haynes manual and it seems like replacing the seals is something I can do eventhough I've never taken a rear axel apart before. Are the bearings pressed into the axel housing or on the axels themselves?
Any recommedations of source of supply for parts? Local auto parts store or Ford dealer?
Thanks,
