I am wondering what the biggest wheels someone has put on their Ranger without lifting it and was it a big problem or easy? I dont care for my little 14's, can I fit 18's? I have heard 16's would work and look good. However I dont want them so big that I cant put a load in the back without touching the wheel wells, I do actually use my truck as a truck.
Did you ever get an answer to your question? I've got the same problem - my 96 4x2 came with 225 70 R14s and I was looking to buy new rims and put 235 75 R16s. Am getting a wide variety of responses ranging from "you can't do that" to "sure-no big deal". Was wondering from an actual owner - did you ever change them? Did they rub or affect your turning ratio? Did you have any problems with loads? I also use mine as a truck - fancy that!
Ok, first off you can do a cost free front end lift in about 30 minutes. If you would like to know how then e-mail me @ MuskratNSoCal(No Email Addresses In Posts!). This will allow you to put the desired 16's on with no rubbing or difference in turning radius. But you will have to recalibrate your speedo. That is, if that really is a concern to you.
You can probably get away with 235/60's maybe 65's it's all about ride height/wheel offset/tire size. I have seen 20's on the '82-'92 body style, but only in the rear. The largest that will fit in the front are 18x7.5 with 225/35 18's but this truck was lowered, a "normal" ride height will allow taller sidewalls possibly at the expense of your turning radius. I have '94 Probe GT wheels on my '91 and I have 205/50's in the front and 225/50's in the rear, the front wheels rub the lower shock mount if I turn too hard to lock. I use my truck as it was intended and can haul with the best of 'em (although doing it on the bump stops!!) I'm pretty good at this so e-mail me if you need assistance- OVALADOAZUL@ATTBI.COM
I have 16x8 Colorado Customs on my '88 Ranger with a 205/50x16 tire which work great abd don't rub (can't remeber my offset...) and my truck is dropped 4" front and 6" rear.
