help fast

i am changing my fuel filter and i always hear on FTE that you should take q-tips and clean some kind of screen out, well i dont see no screen anywhere, and i stuck q-tips everywhere in the filter canister where i think the screen is but still found nothing. please tell me where it is. i have an 02 7.3 , i will check back in five to see if anyone answered

That's the regulator screen on the 94-97's. Doesn't apply to your 02.

I'm about to change my filter, where do I find the above metioned screen? and how often does it need to be cleaned? Do I just wipe it with the q tip a couple of stokes or do I look for something (corrosion/dirt/debris) and keep wiping til clean?

Once you've pulled the fuel filter out, you'll see a hole 1/2 way down on the inside of the fuel canister, on the driver's side. You'll want to moisten the Q-tip with diesel, and gently poke around inside this hole. The screen is about 1" in. Clean repeatedly until the Q-tip comes out clean.
