EGR disconnect?

i was looking through another thread and i saw where the guy had his EGR disconnected. whats the advantages and disadvantages of not recycling the exhaust? i know worse emmissions, but who cares about that?

also, its my dad's truck, its in the shop for a new motor now, and i dont want to mess anything up....

thanks PSD, i read what i got through and it seems appealing to me. ill unhook it when it gets out of the shop.
