Dome light.
Todays test is why would replaceing the dome lightbulb & fuse kill the turn signals, now the brake lights have a short as well. We have a 99 f-150 plane jane two wheel drive 4.6 pick up. It started with the burned out lightbulb and fuse. The truck drove away fixed everything working. 3mins later it was back with no turn signals. Next the brake lights have a dead short. The trailer plug was cut and pushed into the bumper. Removed the plug, and still have the problems. Disconnected the rear lights from the harness, removed the cab mount brake light, disconected the shift lock solinoid, unpluged the multifunction switch, removed the headlight switch, took the brake light switch off the pedel. When you press the brake light switch the fuse for the brake lights pops. fuse 13 pops as soon as you put it in also. The 4way flashers seem to work as they should.
Thank for any ideas.

I just thought of one other possiblity. Someone cut and stuffed the trailer wiring in the back, so they may have had a brake controller mounted under the dash. If they took this out, and did the same cut and stuff routine, you may have some loose wires shorting out under the dash. There is a wire that went to the brake lights from the controller, so if you manually activate the trailer brakes by the controller, the brake lights come on, even though you are not touching the brake pedal.
The wire harness that feeds the dome light, and the cab mount brake light was pinched by the passinger side front seatbelt assembly on the floor. I guess when the truck was built it must have got in the way when the seat belt retractor was bolted to the floor and pinched. By replaceing the fuese for the dome light it caused a short that just got worse, till it burned into the damaged brake light feed to the third brake light. The wire harnnes has a connector behind the right front kick panel. This repair was fun. NOT. This is the second pickup truck i have seen this on.
