FRAM ToughGuard... middle of the line, more solid and sturdy then the cheap one, but not treated like the most expensive. Always been happy with it, never had it disintigrate on me like the cheap ones. Says its for tough applications like towing and short or long drives.
After having read many claims and scientific analysis about the oil drain back valve being the weak point of the Fram, I quit buying them. I will say that I never experienced the problems created by a bad valve - start up friction due to lack of pressure caused by the valve allowing oil to drain backwards and into the pan. It's more for the piece of mind it creates.
Do a search about the drain back valve, I think you'll be able to find the results of a study that was conducted and find out that many brands are manufactured by only a few companies.
Same here, FL 820-S. Ford designed the engines and know how to make the best parts for those engines, even if they are just oil filters. We cut apart a Motorcraft and a Fram at work one day and the Motorcraft had many more pleats in the element than the Fram.
I use the Motorcraft in the Bull and will in the F-150 also. Granted I take it to the dealer for maintenance.
Yes I prefer to do the Quality Care than to do it myself. Esp. oil where you can't *legally* get rid of the old oil without paying. at least around here anyway
Local dumps take it in NH, as long as you don't bring more than a gallon or two at a time. They put it in a tank then recycle it. I know several local Pepboys and the like also take it for free.
i have a freind that works at napa and he had a wix and a fram filter cut in half and the fram has about twice as much filter too it any way i use the fram ph 2 in the truck and the car (94 t bird) have to in the t bird if youve ever changed the oil in a t bird with the 4.6 you know that without the grip on the end youll never get it off there...as for used oil i bottle it up and use it in the wood stove in the garage and use it on camping fires in the summer
Motorcraft only (oil and filter). Used oil goes to my father-in law. He has a used oil furnace for his shop. Gotta love this one; he owns a garbage co. charges a buck a bag, on top of that, he takes used oil at a buck a gallon.
Motorcraft #1 choice, if not available...
Wix #2 choice
BTW....Walmart has stopped carrying Motorcraft filters.......besides the dealer and Autozone, any other chain locations that sell Motorcraft oil filters cheap?

Beechkid- maybe it's just your Wal Mart. All the ones around here still have Motorcraft filters and oil, priced a lot cheaper than what we sell them at where I work.
You must have been looking at a Fram sponsored cut-away display because a Wix or a Casite filter offers WAY better protection then any Fram I have seen. My local parts store decided to put an end to this debate by getting about 5 different brands of filters all for the same make and model and the Wix was hands down the best built filter from the element itself, to the pressure spring. I will only use a Wix, Casite, or a Motorcraft.
