Try a nail punch. Worked great for me. It was just the right diameter to catch the top edge of the pin. The pins are hollow so a nail will just wedge the thing in there if the point goes inside the pin.

Feeling stupit
Thanks for the advice, took another look and discovered that there are two holes for pins and I had been putting my punch in the empty one and pounding against the shaft. The pin was flush with the outside of the handle and was solid not rolled type. Tapped on it and it came right out. Oh well, live and learn, alls well that ends well and all that good stuff. THANKS again
