2.8L ford ranger

Have a question for anyone that may have a 1985 ford ranger 2.8L. First i had heard that after u flush your heating system and then refill it with the new fluid u not only hae to fill the radiator you have to fill the hose going into the thermostat.
my quesion/s is/are: Is this true and what method should i use in order to do this? Where is the thermostat located? Do i need a high temp thermostat?

The thermostat on a 2.8L is located in the housing at the lower hose. This is a reverse flow system. There is no thermostat in the top. Whenever I flushed mine I would just fill the rad because it will run in the upper hose and fill the block. I would recomend an OEM temp thermostat for the truck. My 1984 2.8 4x4 had a problem with carburator icing when the thermostat went bad. So proper temp on those seemed to be an issue. And I do not know your climate but carb icing is more lickly to happen on warm days. Sounds odd.

ok ty this is what i was wondering if i could just fill the rad
rather than having to take the hose off which sounded silly to me.
now bout this icing prob and that is strange why that would happen
in the warmer temps.right now here where i live the temps havent
gone below -5F but usually can get them -15 this time of yr. so is
the OEM theromostat made for this truck and im assuming they are made
and/or sold for/by ford motors.

The OEM means that is original equipment spec. Which I can not remember what the temp is. You can probably get anywhere from one to three different different temp thermostats, but one will be OEM which means that temp thermostat is what Ford recomends. You can get an OEM temp one even at an aftermarket part place.
