what do you mean? i was asking if i could put the 208 behind the np435, my tranny and t-case in my truck now are married, i want to put the np208 behind the np435, im not sure exactly what your saying, could you please clerify?
Fish, I think he means the 435 is setup with a yoke for a divorced mount tranny. What I don't know is if the output shaft has to be changed on that transmission to work in a married application. You would need a t-case to tranny adapter. I don't know if they made one for a 435 to 208 combo but if not it sounds like the 205 adapter would be very similar and not too hard to make work for that.
I know you can't put a 205 onto a 208 transfer adapter because the linkage hits part never got far enough to see if the bolt patterns are the same though but I have a feeling they won't cross I suppose I could quit bieng lazy, and go try it, but like I said the cutouts for the various parts are different for sure.
I think Fishy said that the adapter flange could be notched so that the linkage would clear. I'll have to search for the thread now . . . see what you're making of my Saturday morning?
Your 208 won't bolt up behind the 435 if the 435 is setup for a divorced t-case, ford never used a divorced 208 and it isn't worth it to convert the 435 to a married setup. What you need to do is go out and find an NP435 that is already being used in a married 4x4 setup.
Your 208 will bolt up to any NP435 setup for a married transfercase.
As for the 205 bolting up to the 208 adaptor, the bolt pattern IS identical, all you need to do is notch the adaptor for the range shift rail on the 205. Takes about 10 minutes with an angle grinder.
wait a sec how about this, i use the tranny and make the drivling much shorter so i can bolt my 208 behind it and be able to keep the rear driveline i already have
208's didn't come divorced, you'd have to have a custom input yoke and bearing retainer machined. You're better off just finding a 435 from a married application. They aren't uncommon, just look around.
This whole thing sounds weird, Justin are you building this project? Your truck did not come stock with a divorced transfer case (as you may already know), keep the 208 if you don't plan on 4 by-ing at least weekly. The stock set-up should be a np 435 tranny directly mounted to the NP208 transfer case. I think it might be cheaper to find the tranny and drive line from a similar donor truck...
