NEW F350 Lariat Dually Ignition LOCK
I haven't owned a Ford since 1976. (quality control issues). But, the 2005 F350 was just too compelling. Here is a recent experience and solution.
MY New f350, dually, lariat, 4x4, with only 153 miles on it suddenly had a locked ignition. Just a few minutes before, I was loading cd's into the player. 20 minutes after that I could insert the key but NOT turn the key. The steering wheel was solidly locked.
Solution: While the wheel may 'seem' like it is locked, it really isn't. I just torqued it hard counter clockwise and then the key would work normally. (I am 230 lbs and don't usually have to torque things this hard to get them to work)
Also,......
The 'emergency services' tow truck driver that showed me this little 'trick' told me that Ford Trucks with the keyless entry system sometimes experience a situation where they will not start. The key will turn. The engine will turn over but will not start. His observation was that if you just use your key fob to lock, lock (twice) and then unlock, unlock (twice) the doors it will start.
Thought I would pass this on....
Love my F350!!!!

I've had the "locked" ignition on every vehicle I've had in the past 10 years (all Fords). I find it usually happens when I turn the vehicle off with the steering wheel turned to one side or the other. This seems to put some tension on the key and makes it hard to turn. As you found if you pull the wheel one way or the other it will release the key.
