Overdrive off or on?

Towing 6000Lbs. with 2001 7.3 PSD DRW, should I turn the overdrive off or leave it on?

Leave it on unless it starts hunting gears.

Yep - if you're out on the highway - leave it on. I'll take it out in town just to hold me back a little bit - but other than that I pretty much leave it on all the time.

I keep mine off till I get around 65 mph. I found that if I keep it at 70 or above it will never downshift on the big hills around here and I dont lose any speed going uphill either. If I go below 70 it will downshift as soon as I start to go uphill. My trailer is only about 3000 lbs though.

The only times I turn OD off are 1) when I start up a grade that I know will force it to downshift (shift is smoother than waiting for it to do it automatically), and 2) when I'm going down a hill that compression in OD won't keep be at or close to the speed or safe limit.
