Never in my lifetime have I actually received the money from a "Mail-in Rebate." This despite making ABSOLUTELY SURE all documents were provided and the forms filled out perfectly.
I think they are a sham to get your address so as to send you more junk mail; That, and to get your money, knowing you will forget about the rebate after awhile.
Its actually kinda cool when they come really late. You wonder where it is for about a month and a half, then a few weeks later, you get an unexpected check in the mail
I gave up on sending rebates in, because I usually never got anything back. I did buy a fridge at Home Depot and got the rebate on it. But for the most part I won't even buy something thats offering a $3 rebate. Seems kinda silly...just take the dang $3 off the original price and make me happy.
I did a search for 'class action mail in rebate' and came up with this: link among others.
I bought a HP photo printer that had a 100.00 USD rebate. with the conversion it worked out to about 140.00 CDN at the time; got the cheque in about 3 weeks.
I have pretty much always gotten a rebate when sent off. There have been a couple occasions where I didn't though. One time it was for a dual rebate on a Makita tool. Makita sent the money, but Lowe's did not send the $20 gift card. There was nothing saying you could not have both, several people got turned down that I know of and a few complained enough and got theirs. I figured it was not worth the time for a $20 gift card. I simply did business at places other than Lowe's for a while.
I find it a hassle but I've mailed in several and only one seemed to not work out. Keep photocopies of your paperwork and if they have a website where you can track your rebate, do it. All is just more inconvenience. Also, read the terms very carefully and when possible mail it in ASAP so that you can make sure you're "in the system" before the rebate end date.
I've had good luck and alway's received my rebate money back. It is a hassle and I will look for the better deal up front rather than having to go through the rebate process!
I don't remember ever NOT getting my money when I followed all instruuctions. Admittedly the instructions can be complicated but I have always gotten paid eventually. I too make copies of everything sent and record the date I send it.

How 'bout you?
I bet your wife is cashing the checks and not telling you. I have received a check for everyone I have ever sent in.
Sometimes the checks look like junk mail so you may be throwing them out.
