I own a 78 F-250 snow fighter with a 351m C6....it has D60's F/R...full time 4x4 and it was drivin in the lock position for a long time before i realized the shifter linkage was broke and not shifting the Tcase right....and now it makes a long clunking under power or when i turn sharp with it in the lock position....is that Tcase chain drive and could it be a chain slipping causing the noise?? it really does it bad in low range.....but even with that im pullin out chevys and driving through the hole i pulled em out of!!!! im getting ready to strip this truck and blast the frame then start fresh.....from the ground up....im gonna take pics of everything.....should be a chore....
BTW; anyone know which Tcase i might have??

I would guess your T-case is an NP203. Crawl under the truck and look at it. There's usually a small metal plate on the front side that will identify which model you have. If it doesn't have this plate on it let us know the shift pattern and maybe we can figure it out.
I don't think there's any problems with the transfer case. Most all 4x4's will make that sound as you start to experience a little binding while accelerating during a tight turn.
the noise is definitly something slipping... i was basically powerbraking without actually spinning the tires, my friend (a fellow ford nut) was watching under the truck to see if the driveshaft moved while this noise was going on, turns out neither driveshaft moved at all while the thumping was happening, so its either in the tranny or transfercase for sure.....ive been talked into the NP205, sounds like the easiest way to solve my problems, now the question is, are the spools im looking at in this performance catalog dependable in Dana 60's?? This truck is going to be strickly off road when im done so it will barely ever drive on pavement again, except to cross a road to the next mud hole!!!
