Replacing Transmission
Ok, I drive a 1992 F-150 5.0L V8 Auto, and i want to swap the auto tranny (which isnt in great shape now) with a 5 speed manual any suggestions? and please dont say, just dont do it, this truck has sentimental value or else i would just find a stock manual truck.

No one should ever tell what to do or not to do to your truck! The question is is it a worthwhile swap. My advice would be to look around for a similar parts truck so you will have everything you need and an idea of how it goes together. I bought a parts truck that was hit in the front for $200 because my truck needed a tranny, and I ended up with a spare 302, 8.8 rear, glass, 4 new tires and the list goes on. Just look around and see if it is a viable idea.

Well, first you've got to see if you have an E4OD tranny, it's computer controlled and would need modifications to the computer in order to work. If it's an AOD or C6 or one of those (not computer controlled), than you're all set as far as computer issues.
The main areas of concern are installing the clutch master cylinder and the pedals. The brake pedal will also need to be swapped because the Auto's is wider. I think that is where you'll have the most trouble. Other things, like driveshaft length, and crossmember, are items that can be swapped out easily. The column will need to be swapped...but it would be kinda funny ot have the auto shifter on the column, and the 5 spd shifter on the floor. Might confuse a few people

The little things are alot of work, but it can be done. The best thing, as has already been said, find a whole truck and so you not only have all the parts, but you have something to look at as well for the little things.
It is to bad you didn't little closer cause I could set you up with the whole works.

heh, wish i did live closer, thx neway tho. Any opinions on dropping a 7.5L in it, should i do it at the same time as the tranny or does it matter which order i do it in.
