I'm new to this site, so if this has been addressed in the past I apologize. A hunting buddy of mine is looking for a new truck and has offered his truck to me for a pretty good price. It's a 1997 F-150 with the Triton V8. I have heard that the '97-'99 4.2L V6's had gasket problems that caused coolant leakage. Has anyone heard if there have been gasket and/or other major problems with the '97 V8's? This truck has 115,000 but the owner says it runs well.
Thanks
I have seen some of the 5.4's and 4.6's leak at the back fo the head mostly on the pass. side. This can be seen by looking thru the fender well or getting under it and looking for oil leaking down the block. I have also seen several that had what sounded like an exhaust manifold leak but was actually the head gasket leaking exhaust and making noise.
