Clutch Promblems
I have a 1994 Ranger with a V-6 3.0. I'm changing the clutch in it and I got ready to pull the transmisson out. But I don't know how to un-hook the clutch line. Do you have to have a special tool or is there away to get around buying one. Do you also have to pull the muffler off to pull the transmisson out?

Yes, of course you couldn't get by without haveing to use a special tool. I had to do the same thing to my 94 ranger and it was late and that was the only thing stoping me from getting the tranny out so I made the stupid mistake of saying hey its a 2 foot line it will not cost that much to replace it and (Note stupid me)I cut it. It cost me somewhere around 80 bucks for the new line. Anyways the tool I made out of a piece of flat steel all you have to do is make a notch in the steel just big enough to just slip over the gold fitting and not the white plastic sleeve because you need to press the plastic sleeve in so it cant be seen to release the fitting, the tool probably makes it easier but I went to the local ford dealer and they showed me the tool and basically it was the same thing I made and they wanted like 30 bucks for it, it is agervating I know. My ranger is a four banger and I did not have to disconect the exhaust but on a six I wouldn't be sure about. Hope I didnt confuse you.

just to let you know that a four banger is a little faster to work on the clutch work but my 4.0 i had to take off my exhaust completely along with removing my crossmember to drop the tranny...... dont forget to mark your drive shaft to make sure you put it the way you took it off or it will throw everything off...... wish you luck
