Anyone done it? I greased mine and it stopped clunking for about 8 months. I'd prefer to just drill and tap for a fitting. Would that be enough to upset the balance? Has anyone done this yet?
I'll be taking mine apart this weekend and installing a fitting. I'll take a couple pictures when it's done. Worst case it breaks and I can get a 1 piece shaft made.
You can add grease fitting to ball joint pretty easily. Just drill a hole on the bottom of it and add a zerk fitting. Before you add the zerk fitting blow out the newly drilled hole to get out any metal shavings fron drilling. Pump a few shots of grease in and you are done.
PeteC,i drilled and tapped as said above, you need a long drill bit to do the uppers correctly, and you have to turn the wheels all the way to one side ,i also bought a magnetic oil pan drain plug and removed the magnet and inserted it into the holes after i tapped them, alot more metal fillings came out than i would of thought! Hey it might help extend the life of the originals,i also use mobil1 synthetic grease in the ball joints/front end,now to get to those slip joints!(ps youve got to use the 90 degree fittings in the uppers for axle clearance.)
