I have a 96' XL with the 2.3 and am seriously looking into doing the 302 swap. The problem I have encountered is that the dmv for the state of Nevada says it isnt legal. They say that the engine can't be any larger than the 4.0 because that is the bigest moter offered as a purchase option, and that it has to be the same year engine or newer. Now I know there are people out there that have done the swap, how have they managed to keep the vehicle registered and legal. Any advice would be appreciated.

That sucks I would move to another state. I cant understand why it would be illegal in my home state of indiana I can name many rangers that have 302. I have never talked to them but I will try to find out for you.
