I am looking at purchasing a 93 Ranger 4x4 with the 3.0 and a 5spd. Is there anything that I should look for when I go to look at it? It only has 85,000 km on it, and it looks to be in pristine condition. Oh, and it is regular cab step side if that makes a difference.
wow thats not bad for the ranger...... this is what i would do before i buy the truck... take it to a honest garage and have everything looked at and tested. talk to the mechanic about your concerns etc. and make sure its not a lemmon. then you decide what you want. any good looking paint and extras would make me leary and thats why i would have it looked at the garage.... let me know how you made out and good luck
Check to see if it's been repainted or if there's bad ball joints or any other signs that the mileage might have been fudged on the truck. Shop bills, safety certificates, anything like that usually has a date & mileage on it, that will tell you how often the truck has been driven recently.
Take it from me, I learned the hard way when I bought my first used car. Take it to a garage and have them run a compression test. This will tell you if you have a bad cyclinder or valve. And, if you are going to buy something with an automatic, have them run a line pressure test. These two tests are probably the most important and they're the only way to look inside the engine and tranny. Just about everything else that might be wrong can be seen by inspection or test drive if you evaluate the truck thoroughly.
