MRBASS - check out my gallery. I have one of my gauges mounted where the electronic 4x4 shift trucks have the shifter in the dash (mine's the manual lever shift on the floor). I don't know what kind of 4x4 you have - but that is a pretty easy place to put one - and I think that if you spaced them right - you could fit 2 there side-by-side. Let me know if you need any more info!
I have installed an autometer 2 inch guage to the right of the steering column and I am planning on putting one on the left side as well. It is tight and you need to pick the correct spot but it worked out well for me on the right side.
The guage fit snuggly but i also installed the mounting bracket, that is where you will be tight for space. I looked at the left side and I think it is about the same. I have seen a picture with a guage installed on the left, Pop out your headlight controls and you should be able to feel around in there and see if it will work.
Thanx guys,, And thanx for the pics slc. Fished all day today, and again tomorrow. Looks like sunday afternoon i will be doing a WHOLE LOTA MEASURING... may have to pull the dash out and measure 3 or 4 times till i feel brave enough to cut a hole, no margin for error thats for sure..
yeah, when i was doing my two inch gause i thought i felt something in the way on the left side, i might not have been a bar, but whatever it was, i didnt want to mess with it. i recommend drilling the exact hole size with one of those hole boar bits, or whatever they are called, i bought a two inch diameter one (cause my gauge was two inch) and it worked great. i think if you started with a 1/4 inch hole and went from there it would be a lot of work and also hard to get the hole right on. i will try and take a picture of it to post on here for you so you can see how mine turned out
I started to pull the dash out, but found with the pilot hole you will get a real feel for location. The paper template helped alot. I did price a center panel just in case I screwed up. With discount they are around $100.
