I have an '02 5.4L FX4 and I'm not sure how much motor oil it needs. I thought it took 6 quarts but it shows .5 qt low, does it really take 6.5 quarts?
Ford specs are 6 qrts. The dipstick does not show oil all the way to the top of the "full" mark, but as long as it is in the "full" range, the oil level is fine. Some people add the 1/2 qrt, but it is not necessary.
I noticed the same thing when we bought our '01
The dealer told me that the "book" was incorrect, and that the other half a quart is what it took to make it "full".
the book is right, its just the fact that ford couldn't make a dipstick right on the trucks and they won't own up to it.

LMFAO!!!! Ford couldn't make a dipstick right and won't own up to it... That's Hilarious. But seriously, it's that way because there's about a quart either way to play with. Yeah, Ford makes the best trucks in the world, but can't quite master that tricky old dipstick thingamajig.
