Can anyone tell me how to shut off the autodoorlock feature on my new super duty. Every time I go to the passenger side of the truck, I am locked out. Much more trouble than its worth to me. Thanks
LOL My wife is driving a Durango for a while and it has those stupid door locks. What a fricken pain in the ***. HEY MFG's if your going to put that crap on a truck at least make them unlock when you put it in park!
OH it should say in the manule how to deactivate them.
I've only had my SD for five days...but haven't had anything happen like you are describing. Can you further describe the situation with the autolocks. So far I haven't gotten locked out, but don't want that to happen.
Please explain what is happening to you. What do you mean when you say that every time you go to the passenger side you get locked out?
The only time I've seen or heard the locks do anything automatically is when I drive off without locking them...in a few seconds they do autolock. Other than that, I don't think I've seen what you mentioned.

On my '05 Lariat, the option to auto lock (over 3-5 mph) is found using the Menu of the Information display. You may want to consult your manual for instructions specific to your truck.

He means that the truck is totally unlocked when he gets in. He drives away, the stupid autolock feature locks all the doors. Later on, he gets out of his door (which unlocks when he opens it) and walks around to the passenger side... to find the door locked! *HE* didn't lock it, the stupid autolocks did! So now he has to go back around to the driver's side and hit the unlock button, or get his keys out of his pocket, or whatever.
The procedure to disable it, which is outrageously complicated-sounding but works if you follow it step by step, is in your manual. It's the very first thing I did to my truck.
In defense of autolocks my brother, who lives near Atlanta, says he depends on them, otherwise the crazies and carjackers could just waltz right in the passenger side of his car if he forgot to lock them himself.
and now I understand. It isn't really being locked out of the truck, just inconvenienced at the passenger side door.
I guess I don't find the prospect of taking the keys out of my pocket overly burdensome, compared with the safety and convenience of having the door locked -- regardless -- when th truck is moving.
Glad it wasn't some flaw in the design, or a serious problem with the locking mechanism.
I personally have just gotten in the habit of htting the unlock switch on the door whenever I get out, but here are the instructions for the 2004 models:
Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is in the 3 (OFF) position and all vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to the 4 (ON) position.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from the 4 (ON) to the 3 (OFF) position.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to the 4 (ON) position. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated. Note: Pressing the power door lock/unlock control again will toggle between activating and deactivating the autolock feature.
7. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Now picture that you've left the engine running (in Park and with the parking brake on of course!) and have gone around to the passenger side. Oops! Walk back around, unlock, walk back around again...
My wife used to work with a horse vet who had that problem with his Expedition that was set up with all his vet supplies. He'd get to the back of the truck and (*&*&(^%%$%$ if the hatch wasn't locked even though it had been unlocked at the last job site. Argh!
I'm picturing it...and wondering. Sounds like everyone is aware of this safety feature, and the inconvenience it seems to cause. How many times might one do this before finally remembering to unlock the door before getting out? Seems like it is a perfect opportunity to ultimately learn from one's mistake.
On a slightly different note, though everyone does everything differently, I personally just wouldn't climb out of the truck with the motor running. Sorry, it's just me, but I can't think of a good reason to do so. May have something to do with my profession, but as a terminal dock expeditor, we INSIST with no exceptions that every truck backing into a bay shut down completely...or drop the trailer and pull away. There are just TOO MANY things that can be unpredictable if a truck is left running. No matter HOW LONG AND LOUD one protests that it is safe, I can trot out TOO MANY examples of horrific things having happened. It isn't worth it...and then if you couple that with the inconvenience of actually needing to unlock the passenger door...just makes sense to shut off the truck and take the keys out.
It isn't a particularly Ford feature...we had both Dodge and Chrylser minivans with the same feature.
It really is no big deal at all...and if there is a procedure to disable the feature for those who like to leave the keys in the truck, that makes it easy for them as well.
