I got my truck back from Midas today.Headers,2 1/2" exhaust and high flow mufflers. It really woke that 352 up(or it sounds like it). While in the shop I looked at the rear and found it to be a 4:10 limited slip.I looked in my shop manual an it only says to use the ford oil,What do I use in this thing? Is the ford oil still available?
Thanx,
Joe
I have a 3:50 limited slip and just changed out the oil. I used 1 bottle of LS additive and Mobile-1 75W-90 synthetic. I believe it takes a little less than 2.5Q, so I bought 3 bottles + the additive (put in first). Have lots of fun draining the old stuff!!!
There ia a small leak at the pinion seal but I'll deal with that in the spring. Is the additive is available at a regular auto parts store?I hate the smell of gear oil!!
Is it hard to drain the old stuff out?I haven't looked at the rear real close.
Joe
I picked up the additive and M-1 at my local Auto-Zone. You will need to suction the thick gear oil out - I used a hand-held Mity-Vac but the cup only holds about 6-8 oz. Had to pump and empty over and over. Of course you could take the back plate off if you want to clean/replace gasket route.
Yes most auto parts places have the additive just don't spill any in side the truck, you might get some rubber gloves while your there. Pee-u that smell.
As for getting the old oil out drive the truck for 10 miles or so first it will thin out the oil thus it will flow faster.
I use 5/16 motorcycle fuel line to drain them. Motorcycle fuel line has a thinner wall, so it fit through the hole better put flows good. Get ~ 2 feet start it with a mitey -vac or sick the end in your regular shop vac untill it starts up the tube then let gravity drain the rest. If you use a hallogen shop light place that under the ceter section it will keep the rear warm. thus aid in draining.
