Body switch
I have two 88 f150s. one is 4X4 i6, with a trashed cab, and doghouse. the other is a 302 with a blown motor, 4X2, power everything, and ac. I want to switch the body over to the 4X4. Is there anything special that needs to be done in order for everything to work (windows, door locks) also, is there a way to keep the 4X4's vin #? Thanks for any input.

As far as switching cabs, it will fit, but it's going to be a lot of work, with vacuum hoses, wiring harnesses, and computer swaps (bolted to the firewall).
Not sure about the VIN. I think legally, the VIN stays with the frame.

The vin is riveted to the metal lip under the windshield, where the dash attaches to. Federal law prohibits you from tampering with this, and the fines for doing so are extensive.

There won't be a hole for gearshifts in 4x2 cab. Legally, the VIN number can be changed, at least in Canada it can. But its tricky. Here's a scenario: If I buy a truck from Frederic and the VIN has been changed, I can license it with the wrong VIN and risk getting cought, or report that the VIN had been changed, and MPIC will fix the problem, creating as much hassle to me as possible. So it can be done, but its a pain in the ***. It's a law that doesn't get enforced much around here, because people can modify their vehicles so the VIN doesn't match, yet never change the number. Example: I put 4x4 in a 4x2 truck. Or even just repaint a different color.
