I know several guys that have them and I am getting ready to install my own system on my truck. 30-50% increase in Torque on one of these IDI's isn't unreasonable. No it doesn't hurt the engine it's actually good for it. Diesel fuel only burns about 75% in the engine and leaves carbon and junk in the engine which increases wear and tear on the engine. Propane acts like a catalyst which makes the fuel burn 100% so you therefore get more power and fuel mileage. PM me if you have anymore questions.

I put propane on my 1984 6.9L NA IDI about a month ago and even on the NA it makes a heck of a difference in power! I built my own system similar to Ziggster's system (do a search for his name, should pull up his write-up). Power comes on strong but VERY smooth, no hard hit like nitrous. EGT's on mine only rise approx. 50-100 degrees when the propane is flowing, BUT it keeps my EGT's down lower on long hills than if I run up them with diesel fuel only! It makes the truck accelerate like a gasser when the propane is flowing!

i built a propane injectoin system for my truck and it didn't do anything for power. maybe i built it wrong, or my timing is off or something. because all it did was blow more smoke and if you turn the propane up too much it just clatter like a gasser with about 65 degrees timing. i had my fuel turned up about 5/8 turn and i thought it was too much for the propane to do anything, so i turned it back down and it just don't smoke as much. the truck alredy runs 0-60 in 15 seconds, maybe thats all the old ford will do with no turbo! i got 4.10's also. 0-30 time is like 2-3 seconds! that hoe JUMPS. i still want to retard my timing and see if that helps with the propane. i just used a propane bottle with an acetylene regulator and in the intake i put a piece of copper tubing crimped on the end with 3 small holes drilled in it. if you turn the regulator up to about 15 psi, you could turn the key off and the motor would still run about 1500 rpm's!!!!

89Ford73, maybe you just answered your propane problem! You said that you have 3 small holes in the copper tubing in the air cleaner for the propane to flow through, maybe it just needs to be opened up more. I have 12 - 1/16th" holes in mine and a friend of mine has 14 - 1/8" holes in his and we have both had good results. Might wanna try drilling a few more holes in the tubing to allow for more propane volume to flow (pressure = flow through a restriction).

hey, does anyone know exactly if when you push the throttle. does the timing advance or retard?? i can't see any way it would advance the timing. the pump turns to the right. the "advance lever" is on the right side of the pump. it pushes the lever to the right on top when you mash the gas. the lever is hinged in the middle and gets pushed to the left on bottom, this turns the internal rack-ring inside the ump to the right. if the pump runs to the right, and the lever pushes it to the right more when the pedal is to the floor. that means that the timing is being retarded when the pedal is on the floor. retarded timing. right or wrong. why is the pump retarding the timing and would it run any better if you made it advance the timing instead of retarding it???? i could be all wrong.
and i will try putting more holes in there. my tube i don't think is long enough to put 12 holes in it! do i put 6 in the front and 6 in the back? it definately makes more noise, but thats it. do your trucks make more noise clatter like when you hit the propane?
